Type:— Bulgaria. Sliven, 1887, Skorph (Holotype: PRC photo!).

Glabrous ± glaucous, perennial herbs, ca. (5)10–20(35) cm tall, with several simple, leafy stems. Basal leaves entire, oblong to broadly ovate, petiolate, not rosulate, often violet beneath, ca. 9–60(85) × 4–15(25) mm; cauline leaves entire or sinuate-denticulate, amplexicaul with obtuse auricles, ovate-oblong, coriaceous, glaucescent, to ca. 5–17 mm, apex acute. Racemes dense, considerably elongating in fruit, ca. (6)13–70(84) –flowered, congested; pedicels horizontally spreading to ascending, to ca. 3.5 mm in flower, to ca. 16 mm in fruit. Sepals greenish, 1.6–3.2 mm with violet tips, papillose. Petals white, 3–7 × 0.7–2.7 mm, narrowly spatulate. Filaments ca. (0.3)0.6–1.7(2.1) mm, anthers ovate, ca. (0.5) 0.6–0.8 mm, yellow. Fruits narrowly obcordate, usually ca. (6.8) 7–9 mm with wing to ca. 1 mm. wide, apex truncate at immature and becoming retuse at maturity; angle at base. Style ca. (0.3)0.6–1.7(2.1) mm, always exceeding sinus. Seeds yellow to orange–brown, tuberculate, ca. (4)6 per locule, ca.1.15–1.6(1.8)–2.2 × 0.8–1.1 mm.

Habitat: Open Quercus forest on calcareous substrates.

Altitude: 400– 550 m.

Flowering and fruiting time: March–April.

General distribution: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Turkey.
