Range: —Mountains of Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, and Venezuela; Bolivia (LP).
Ecology: —Local and uncommon; inside forest, on bluffs, and along roadsides, in humid forests; 1200–1850 m, to 2200 m elsewhere.
Notes: —The few Bolivian collections are sterile and differ in numerous scale details from specimens from the main range of the species; they may represent a different species.
