Dicranopteris Bernh., Neues J. Bot. View in CoL 1(2): 38–39. 1805.
Dicranopteris View in CoL is a pantropical genus of perhaps 20 species (PPG I 2016), with about four species in the Neotropics. It is distinguished from Sticherus View in CoL by having only hairs and lacking scales on the buds in the branch forks. Gleichenella View in CoL also has hairy buds, but is unequally branched. Dicranopteris View in CoL often forms very dense thickets in open habitats that can suppress tree regeneration ( Cohen et al. 1995, Russell et al. 1998).
