Parabrochymena Larivière, 1992

Larivière (1994) provided a review of this genus, with descriptions and keys to the species. Parabrochymena currently contains ten species, very similar in appearance to species of Brochymena (see comments under that genus heading).

Although Ruckes (1947) recorded Parabrochymena apiculata (Van Duzee) from the ‘Southwestern States’, and Larivière (1994) examined a specimen labeled from Nevada, Larivière (1994) ultimately decided these records were in error. This species should not be included in our fauna, unless additional specimens are found.
