Chinavia Orian, 1965

The three North American representatives of this genus, until relatively recently were treated as members of the genus Acrosternum Fieber. It is now fairly well accepted that the true Acrosternum is composed of a group of smaller, pale, shiny species restricted to arid regions of the Old World ( Ahmad 1996). Species of Chinavia are usually larger, more vividly green, and occur in somewhat wetter regions of both the New World and Old World (Africa).

Chinavia contains numerous species. The genus was revised by Rolston (1983); many new species have since been described ( Rider & Rolston 1986, Rider 1987, Eger 1988, Frey-da-Silva & Grazia 2001, Schwertner & Grazia 2006, Faúndez et al. 2013), which has prompted more recent studies on the genus ( Schwertner & Grazia 2007).
