Etymology:— name refers to the host genus Diospyros .

Spermogonia, aecia and uredinia unknown.Telia on abaxial leaf sides in groups 3–15 mm in diameter; subepidermal telia breaking through the epidermis of the host leaf, gelatinous, yellowish to light brown (older telia appears often blackish caused by a dark brown, septate hyphomycetes), 0.2–0.5 mm in diameter; teliospores generated in chains later free and more or less irregularly imbedded in a gelatinous matrix, in 3–5 layers, teliospores ellipsoid, ovoid to pyriform, (17)24–29.4–36(41) × (11)12–14.9–16(23) μm, wall colourless, hyaline, ca. 0.5 μm thick, germ pores obscure; distal teliospores immediately germinating with basidia. Basidia ca. 70–80 × 12–15 μm, basidiospores globose to subglobose 12–15 μm in diameter. M-haustoria, intracellular haustorial bodies ovoid to oblong, 5–10 × 3–5 μm, with a terminal, up to 2 μm thick, thin-walled appendix.

Host and distribution:—on Diospyros sericea A. DC. (det. L. Beenken, conf. B. Wallnöfer) in cerrado vegetation of Brazil, known from Federal district and Goiás. Hosts were misinterpreted as Xylopia sp. ( Buriticá 1999).

Holotype:— BRAZIL. Federal District, National Park Aquas Emendadas, NE of Brasilia, forest along small stream, 4 Aug 1976, leg. J. F. Hennen , Y. Ono , E. Heringer 76-256 ( PUR 66525 About PUR c) ( III, IV).
