Lactobacillus hamsteri (ham’ste.ri. N.L. gen. n. hamster of the hamster from which the isolate was derived).
Lactobacillus hamsteri produces DL-lactic acid from glucose, cellobiose, sucrose, mannitol, raffinose and ribose. Noacid is producedfrom melizitose [ 88]. Thegenome size is 1.84 Mbp and the mol% G+C content of DNAis 35.1.
Isolated from the intestine of a hamster.
