Chauliodes (Hermes) maculipennis Gray in Cuvier, 1832: 332. Type locality: Indonesia (Java).

World distribution: Indonesia, Malaysia (?) [not India] ( Cuvier 1832: 332; Needham 1909: 195; Banks 1931a: 379; Liu et al. 2015: 52; Oswald 2024a).

Note: Liu et al. (2015) treated this species as endemic to the island of Java, noting as questionable, but still possible, older reports of the species from other parts of Indonesia and Malaysia that have not been confirmed by more recent collections. Previous records from India: Meghalaya (e.g., Needham 1909: 195; Ghosh 2000a: 119; Ghosh 2000b: 90) are considered to be misidentifications and the species is excluded here from the Indian fauna.
