18.1. Tricholygus hirsutus Poppius, 1910 View in CoL (original combination reinstated)

( Figure 68 View FIGURES 68 – 73 )

Tricholygus hirsutus Poppius, 1910b: 48 View in CoL (as new species), 1912: 115 (redescription). Creontiades hirsutus: Carvalho 1952: 96 View in CoL (n. comb.), 1959: 75 (catalog); Schuh 1995: 745 (catalog), 2002–2013 (online catalog).

Material examined. 1Ƌ: TANZANIA: “Africa Or., Katona” ( MZHF). [this non type specimen—see Poppius 1910b and 1912 —from HNHM but preserved to MZHF bears Poppius’ original handwritten identification label].

Diagnosis. Body yellow to orange brown. Head yellowish to orange brown, tylus red brown, eyes red. Sulcus of vertex shallow but relatively wide. First antennal segment elongate, slightly thicker apically, basally yellowish brown, apically red, with some dark, stiff, erect setae. Second antennal segment thin, apically slightly club-like, yellowish basally on ¾ of its length, dark reddish apically. Third and fourth antennal segments yellow. Pronotum with apical collar and area of callosities yellow, anterior angles dark reddish, disk slightly punctate and brownish yellow, humeral angles damaged. Legs missing. Scutellum yellowish to orange brown, flat. Clavus and endocorium yellow to orange brown, faintly punctate, exocorium yellowish orange brown tinged with red as cuneus. Membrane light brown, vein red apically. Hemelytral pilosity white, semi-erect, long.

Discussion. The dorsal pilosity and punctation excludes T. hirsutus from the genus Creontiades . We were not able to classify the species hirsutus in any other genera of Mirini . Consequently, we suggest reinstating Tricholygus Poppius, 1910 as a valid genus. The dorsal punctation and the relatively thin antennae could exclude this genus from the Adelphocoris - Creontiades - Megacoelum complex. Study of additional material (particularly of genitalia of both sexes) would be essential to clarify the placement of this taxon. The species originally described under the binomen Tricholygus grandis Poppius, 1912 is unknown to us. We tentatively classify it in the genus Tricholygus as presently redefined.
