A large species with completely infuscated wings, distinguished from E. schmidtii by the yellow, not orange, hair at the fore margin of the thorax. Bezzi (1924) gives a full description.

Diagnosis

Paler areas on head, reddish and scape and pedicel reddish. Thorax with predominantly black hair and yellowish scales but with hair at fore margin yellow and plumula white. Legs dark red and covered in glossy black scales. Wings long and broad, completely infused brown, darker at fore border and at margins of veins. Abdomen short and broad; vestiture mainly black, including hair on ®rst tergum, with an indistinct white band of scales at base of second tergum and white scales on the sixth and seventh. Length of body, 17±18 mm; of wing, 19±20 mm.

Distribution Congo, Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania, Zimbabwe.
