Diagnosis. Largely black but face, gena, antenna, and palpus yellow; mid coxa slightly brownish at base; arista minutely pubescent; dc two, surstylus with eight or nine spines; cerci united; right hypophallus hooked, left hypophallus quadrate.
Description. MALE. Head with frons, occiput, and postgena shining black, frontalia yellowish brown along ventromedian margin, pruinose on ventral 1/2, vertical angle and orbit brown, face and gena yellow, gena silverywhite tomentose. Antenna and palpus yellow, arista pale brown except for yellow base. Thorax shining black; mesoscutum pollinose, weakly shining; anepimeron to mediotergite faintly brown-tinged. Wing hyaline, very faintly tinged with brown anteroapically and apically; calypter with margin brown, fringe brownish yellow; halter yellow. Legs yellow; mid coxa slightly brownish at base, fore femur with oblique brown spot before inner apex, fore tibia with pale brown stripes along entire length of inner and outer sides, fore tarsomeres 1–3 brown. Abdomen including epandrium shining black, cercus brown. Bristles on head and thorax brownish yellow, those on abdomen black.
Frons 1.3 times as wide as eye, slightly converging ventrally; third or shorter than upper two or; oc 1/3 length of poc; poc 2/3 length of second or; gena 1/5–1/6 as high as eye; pm five. First antennal flagellomere orbicular, slightly shorter than wide, with minute pile; arista minutely pubescent. Palpus 2/3 as wide as width of first flagellomere.
Mesoscutum with two dc, anterior dc slightly shorter than posterior dc and situated midway between transverse suture and posterior dc, eight rows of acr. Scutellum with bsc setula-like, 1/7 length of asc. Wing 3.1–3.4 (3.1) mm long; costal three sections in proportion of 40–43: 10: 5, r-m at distal 1/3 of cell dm, M1 ratio 8.9–9.2, ultimate section of CuA1 either 5/6 as long as or equal to penultimate section. Fore tarsomeres 3 and 4 slightly wider than others; mid tibia with one spur.
Epandrium with surstylus ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 25 – 35 ) oval, setulose, and with six or seven spines and two spinules in two rows on inner anteroventral part; cerci united with each other, with long apical setae; proctiger small, weakly chitinized. Hypandrium of normal shape; pregonite and postgonite well chitinized, the former with several setulae, the latter with two strong apical setae. Phallapodeme 120 µm long; phallus 700 µm long, basiphallus short, hypophallus ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 25 – 35 ) on left side quadrate at base, serrated distally, branch on right side hooked, distiphallus membranous on tip, paraphallus well developed, with right sclerite as long as distiphallus; ejaculatory apodeme 120 µm long.
Body length 3.3–3.6 (3.3) mm.
FEMALE. Unknown.
Distribution. Philippines.
Remarks. This species is similar to Heteromeringia didyma in general appearance, but differs from it by the characters given in the key (couplet 10). Also, its wing is faintly infuscated apically, and the mesophallus is curved once, whereas in H. didyma , the wing is distinctly fuscous on the apical 1/4, the mesophallus is coiled twice, and the paraphallus is very narrow ( Sasakawa 1966: fig. 5A, B).
Etymology. The specific name refers to the type locality.
