This species 1s monotypic.
Distribution. Known only from type locality in W Andes Range of C Colombia. View Figure
Descriptive notes. Head-body 68 mm (tailless), ear 17 mm, hindfoot 16 mm, forearm 42-7 mm; weight 24 g. The Mistratoan Yellow-shouldered Bat is only known from the holotype. It is small and similar to the Little Yellow-shouldered Bat ( S. Lilium ). Dorsal fur is dark brown, becoming lighter toward side and venter. Dorsal hairs are tricolored, with dark brown base, subterminal whitish band, and dark brown band on tips (each band represents about one-third the hair’s length). It has gray spots on shoulders (epaulettes) from glandular secretions. Dorsal surfaces of femur,tibia, and feet are densely covered with long hairs. Tail membrane is very short and well-furred (long hairs). I' are faintly bicuspidate, and I, are tricuspidate and subequal in height to L,. Lingual cusps (metaconid and entoconid) of M, and M, are well defined and are separated by deep notch. M| also has accessory cuspid (paraconulid) between paraconid and metaconid, a distinctive characteristic.
Habitat. Only recorded from type locality near 1000 m along Pacific slope of Western Andes Range. There is no specific information on the habitats at this locality, but it should include pre-montane rainforest.
Food and Feeding. As other species of Sturnira , the Mistratoan Yellow-shouldered Bat is expected to be mainly frugivorous, maybe eating some pollen, nectar, and insects.
Breeding. No information.
Activity patterns. Mistratoan Yellow-shouldered Bats are nocturnal.
Movements, Home range and Social organization. No information.
Status and Conservation. Classified as Data Deficient on The IUCN Red List. There is limited information about the Mistratoan Yellow-shouldered Bat and uncertainty aboutits relationships to other species of Sturnira .
