Herb or shrublet, erect, 0.5–2 m high; young branches terete, brown pubescent. Leaves digitately 3-foliolate. Stipules narrowly linear, 1–2 mm long, brown pubescent, caducous. Petioles 2–4.2 cm long, brown pubescent. Petiolules 2–4 mm long. Leaflets elliptic, ovate or obovate, 3–7.5 × 1.5–3 cm, base cuneate or obtuse, apex acute, obtuse or rounded, margin entire, glabrous upper, brown puberulous lower; lateral veins 4–5 pairs, inconspicuous. Inflorescences leaf-opposed, open racemes, 8–14 cm long; peduncle 1.2–2 cm long, brown pubescent. Bracts narrowly linear, 1.5–2 mm long, persistent. Pedicels 5–8 mm long, brown pubescent. Bracteoles inserted distally on the pedicel, narrowly linear, 1–1.8 mm long, caducous. Calyx 5–8 mm long, truncate; tube 2–3 mm long; lobes subequal, triangular, 3–5 mm long, glabrous inside, brown pubescent outside. Corolla yellow. Standard: claw 2–3 mm long, white tomentose above and along the margin, glabrous below, apex with appendages; blade broadly ovate, 8–9 × 7–8 mm, base truncate, apex rounded, margin glabrous. Wings: claw 2–3 mm long, glabrous; blade obovate, 7.5–8 × 3.5–4 mm, base cuneate, apex obtuse, margin glabrous. Keel: claw 2.8–3 mm long, glabrous, margin white pubescent; blade ovate, 6–7 × 4.5–5 mm, beak not twisted, base oblique, apex attenuate, white pubescent on the surface and along the proximal half of the margin. Stamens: filaments fused for proximal 5–7 mm, free for distal 3–6 mm; anthers either narrowly linear, 0.8–1 mm long or oblong, 0.5–0.8 mm long. Ovary with 0.8–1 mm long stipe, elliptic, 4–5 mm long, brown pubescent; style 9–10 mm long, adaxially white pubescent in a single line along the distal edge, abaxially glabrous. Pods with 5–7 mm long stipe, elliptic, 3–4 × 0.8–1 cm, brown and brown puberulous. Seeds reniform, 4–5 × 4–5 mm, brown.

Distribution: —Asia ( India, Myanmar, China, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam). ( Figure 8 ).

Ecology: —Limestone, dipterocarp-oak and dry evergreen forests, elevation 400 − 2100 m.

Notes: — Crotalaria cytisoides is similar to C. bracteata . It differs in the position of its bracteoles which are inserted on the pedicel, its pubescent calyx and puberulous pods. De Candolle (1825) described C. cytisoides based on two specimens of Wallich s.n. (G) therefore one of Wallich s.n. (G) is chosen as the lectotype.
