7. Crotalaria calycina Schrank (1817: 12) View in CoL . Type:— Plate 12 in Schrank, Plantae Rariores Horti Academic Monacensis 1817; seeds obtained from Schreber’s Herbarium of a plant cultivated at Munich, Germany (M n.v.).

Herb, erect, 40–70 cm high; young branches terete, brown sericeous. Leaves simple. Stipules narrowly linear, 3–5 mm long, brown sericeous, caducous. Petioles 2–4 mm long, brown sericeous. Lamina lanceolate, linear or oblong, 2.8–13.5 × 0.3–1.5 cm, base cuneate or obtuse, apex acute, margin entire, glabrous upper, sericeous lower; lateral veins 7–9 pairs. Inflorescences axillary, open short 1–2 flowered racemes and terminal many-flowered racemes, 5–18 cm long; peduncle 0.3–3 cm long, brown sericeous. Bracts cordate, 7–15 × 2–4 mm, persistent. Pedicels 0.4–1 cm long, brown villose. Bracteoles inserted distally on the pedicel, cordate, 5–15 × 1–2 mm, persistent. Calyx 2–2.7 cm long, campanulate, bilabiate; tube 0.7–1 cm long; lobes lanceolate or obovate, 18–25 × 3–10 mm, glabrous inside, brown villose outside. Corolla yellow. Standard: claw 2–2.7 mm long, glabrous, margin white tomentose; blade obovate, 13–18 × 8–10 mm, base truncate, apex emarginate, brown pubescent, margin glabrous. Wings: claw 2.7–3 mm long, glabrous except the margin white puberulous; blade oblanceolate, 13–14 × 3–4 mm, base oblique, apex acute, margin glabrous. Keel: claw 1.5–2 mm long, glabrous except the margin white pubescent; blade lanceolate, 18–19 × 6–8 mm, beak spirally twisted, base cuneate or obtuse, apex attenuate, margin white pubescent. Stamens: filaments fused for proximal 5–6 mm, free for distal 5–9 mm; anthers either narrowly linear, 1.8–2.5 mm long or elliptic, ca. 1 mm long. Ovary with 0.5–1 mm long stipe, oblanceolate or oblong, 5.5–6 mm long, glabrous; style 15–16 mm long, adaxially white pubescent in a single line along the entire edge, abaxially glabrous. Pods with 2.5–3 mm long stipe, oblong, 23–27 × 5–6 mm, black-brown, glabrous. Seeds harp-shaped, 1.5–2 × 2.5–3 mm, brown.

Notes: —The diagnostic characters of C. calycina are the cordate bracts, oblanceolate wings and stipitate ovary and pods.
