Herb, prostrate to erect, (10–) 50–150 cm high; young branches terete, brown pubescent. Leaves simple. Stipules triangular, 3–9 × 0.5–3 mm, brown pubescent, persistent. Petioles 2–6 mm long, brown pubescent. Lamina variable, ovate, oblong, lanceolate, elliptic obovate or orbicular, 0.8–11 × 0.5–5 cm, base cuneate or obtuse, apex obtuse, rounded or acute, margin entire, both surfaces brown pubescent; lateral veins 5–7 pairs. Inflorescences axillary or leaf-opposed, open racemes, 2.5–17 cm long; peduncle 1.5–11 cm long, brown pubescent. Bracts lanceolate, 4–7 × 0.8–1 mm, persistent. Pedicels 2.5–5 mm long, brown pubescent. Bracteoles inserted on the calyx tube, lanceolate, 3–7 mm long, persistent. Calyx 1.3–2 cm long, campanulate, bilabiate; tube 1–4 mm long; lobes triangular, 12–16 mm long, glabrous inside, brown pubescent outside. Corolla yellow. Standard: claw 1.5–2 mm long, white tomentose above and on margin, glabrous below; blade elliptic, 8–12 × 7–10 mm, base truncate or obtuse, apex obtuse or rounded, margin glabrous. Wings: claw 1.5–2.8 mm long, glabrous; blade obovate, 6–10 × 2–4 mm, base oblique, apex obtuse, margin glabrous. Keel: claw 1.5–2 mm long, glabrous; blade ovate, 8–10 × 4–6 mm, beak spirally twisted, base cuneate, apex attenuate, margin white pubescent. Stamens: filaments fused for proximal 3–5 mm, free for distal 3–6 mm; anthers either narrowly linear, 1.5–2.2 mm long or elliptic, 0.5–0.8 mm long. Ovary with 0.2–0.3 mm long stipe, oblong, 3–4 mm long, glabrous; style 7–9 mm long, adaxially white pubescent in a single line along the distal edge, abaxially glabrous. Pods with 1–3 mm long stipe, oblong or obovate, 1.8–2.7 × 0.6–0.8 cm, brown-black, glabrous. Seeds reniform, 1.8–3 × 1–2 mm, brown-black, arillate.

Distribution: —North America, Asia ( India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, China, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam). ( Figure 14 ).

Ecology: —Sunny places on limestone, deciduous dipterocarp, mixed deciduous, pine- oak and evergreen forests, elevation 35–2558 m.

Notes: — Crotalaria lejoloba is superficially similar to C. chinensis but differs in having persistent triangular stipules, axillary or leaf-opposed inflorescences and stipitate pods. Most authors used C. ferruginea as the name for this species. However, we use the name C. lejoloba which agrees with Adema’s view (2006) because of the priority of the name. Moreover, Adema also selected a neotype for this species.
