Type Material. Holotype male housed at WADA with following label data and male genitalia and mouthparts mounted beneath specimen: a) " Mt. Bawang , West Kalimantan, BORNEO, VI 1990 " (type face), b) "Kaoru WADA Col. No. 1010" (typeface and handwritten, yellow label), c) our holotype label . Allotype female housed at FUJI with following label data with mouthparts mounted beneath specimen: a) " Mt. Bawang , BORNEO INDONESIA JULY 1994." (type face), b) "FujiokaCollection PeltonotusE4" (typeface and handwritten, yellow label), c) our allotype label . Paratypes (4 males, 2 females) with label data identical to allotype. 1 male paratype with following data: a) “ Crocker Range , Sabah, N. BORNEO, MALAYSIA APR. 1996.”(type face) . Paratypes deposited at: FUJI, MLJC, UNSM .

Description. Holotype male. Length 14.1 mm. Widest width 7.5 mm. Color: Head, pronotum, scutellum, pygidium, and venter castaneous; elytron reddishbrown with 3 black, oblique vitae (1 on sutural stria, 1 from humerus to near apex, 1 along margin). Dorsal surface with iridescent bloom Head: Surface of frons with base impunctate, middle frons to apex moderately densely punctate; punctures simple, lacking setae. Surface of clypeus moderately densely punctate; punctures lacking setae, semiocellate, some unisetigerous at margin; setae moderate in length, rufous. Clypeus laterally weakly bowed, apex truncate, corners square, beaded; bead weakly arcuate posteriorly. Labrum broadly emarginate at middle. Mandible obliquely quadrate, apex truncate, inner apex lacking teeth (female with external edge more rounded). Mentum with apical half rounded, notched at middle; palpomere 2 simple, about 1.5 times width of palpomere 1, not dorsoventrally flattened, lacking abundant setae. Maxilla: mala lacking lamellate setal brush; stipes with setae moderately dense, long, not flattened, not curled at apex; palpomere 2 without internomedial bump. Antennal club subequal to segments 2–7. Pronotum: Bead lacking at base. Surface moderately densely punctate; punctures simple and ocellate, lacking setae on disc. Lateral margin lacking long setae. Elytral sutural length: About 4.5 times length of scutellum. Elytra: Surface with 7 poorly developed, punctate, longitudinal striae between suture and humerus; punctures simple or ocellate, moderate in size, moderately dense. Intervals similarly sculptured. Propygidium: Surface moderately densely punctate; punctures simple, unisetigerous from base to middisc; setae short (base) to minute (middisc). Pygidium: Surface moderately densely punctate; punctures ocellate, lacking setae. Venter: Prosternal keel elongate; apex projecting anteriorly at about 90° with respect to ventral plane, produced to about 1/3 of protrochanter, truncate. Legs: Foretibia of male tridentate; lateral margin without short, dense setae. Foretarsomere 5 subequal in length to tarsomeres 1–4; foretarsomeres 3–4 with apices weakly expanded (moreso in 4), dorsal and ventral apices of tarsomere 4 clothed with small patch of dense, short setae. Foreclaws with inner claw broadly curved, about 3 times thicker than outer claw; outer claw simply arcuate, about 1/2 the length of inner claw; empodium bulbous at base. Meso and metatibial claws of male with 2 setae, claws angled toward venter, about 1/2 length of metatarsomere 5. Metatibia of male with apical spurs more or less straight; ventral spur produced to middle of metatarsomere 1, dorsal spur produced to middle of metatarsomere 2. Parameres: Fig. 40a–c View FIGURES 40–42 .

Allotype Female. Differs from the holotype in the following respects. Length 14.7 mm. Widest width 7.6 mm. Color: Head, pronotum, scutellum, propygidium, pygidium, and venter black; elytra black with iridescent bloom. Head: Surface of frons densely punctate; punctures simple, lacking setae. Surface of clypeus densely to confluently punctate; punctures simple, lacking setae. Pronotum: Punctures simple. Elytron: Epipleuron in ventral view with sparse setae, not expanded, not incised at apex; in dorsal view expansion not developed ( Fig. 52 View FIGURES 51–55 ). Legs: Foretarsomeres lacking.

Paratypes (4 males, 2 females; Figs. 2–5 View FIGURES 2–13 ). Differ from holotype and allotype in the following respects. Length 13.6–15.4 mm. Widest width 6.8–7.6 mm. Color (male): Head, pronotum, scutellum, pygidium, and venter castaneous; elytron reddishbrown or black (lacking vitae). Head: Surface of clypeus moderately densely or densely punctate; punctures ocellate, semiocellate, simple, some unisetigerous apicolaterally; setae short, sparse.

Etymology. We name this beautiful species in honor of Masayuki Fujioka (Tokyo, Japan), whose significant contribution of specimens to this research enabled a much greater understanding of the diversity and evolution of the genus.

Diagnosis. Peltonotus fujiokai is separated from other species in the genus based on the following characters: mandible obliquely quadrate, apex truncate, inner apex lacking teeth (female with external edge more rounded); mentum with apical half rounded, palpomere 2 about 1.5 times width of palpomere 1, not dorsoventrally flattened; maxilla lacking lamellate setal brush, palpomere 2 without internomedial bump; punctures of frons simple, lacking setae; foretibia of male subparallel, tridentate; lateral margin without short, dense setae; epipleuron of the female simple ( Fig. 52 View FIGURES 51–55 ).

Distribution (Fig. 67). West Kalimantan Province, Bornean Indonesia and Sabah State, Bornean Malaysia.

Locality records (8 specimens) from FUJI, WADA .

BORNEAN INDONESIA (7): West Kalimantan Province (7): Mt. Bawang.

BORNEAN MALAYSIA (1): Sabah State (1): Crocker Range.

Temporal Data. April (1), June (1), July (6).

Remarks. Male specimens of P. fujiokai have a wide variation in elytral color: elytra entirely reddish, reddish with longitudinal black vitae, or entirely black. Despite the variation in elytral color and the geographic separation between populations in Mt. Bawang and Crocker Range, specimens are homogeneous in all other respects.
