( Figs. 3–4 View Figs )

Erodiscus panamensis Sleeper 1954: 345 View in CoL . O’Brien and Wibmer 1982: 101. Described from a holotype female labeled Porto Bello, Panama, III-12 and an unsexed (now known to be female) paratype labeled Porto Bello, Panama, III-1.

Prosicoderus panamensis View in CoL ; Vanin 1986: 518.

Vanin (1986) tentatively placed this species in the genus Prosicoderus View in CoL based upon the statement “elytra with no lateral striae” ( Sleeper 1954: 346), although I am unsure exactly what is meant by this statement, and the similarity of the Sleeper description with that of Prosicoderus scolopax (Faust, 1894) View in CoL . My examination of the female holotype found that elytral stria 10 was continuous, not interrupted above the metacoxa as for Prosicoderus View in CoL , but continuing posteriorly as a series of fine, closely placed punctures very close to the elytral margin. The prosternal projection is not tuberculiform as it would be in Prosicoderus View in CoL , but rather lamelliform but with a somewhat rounded apex. These two characters place the species in Sicoderus Vanin, 1986 View in CoL as Sicoderus panamensis ( Sleeper, 1954) , new combination.

The pronotum is almost completely impunctate dorsally and finely, minutely punctate laterally on the flanks, the eyes are separated by about the diameter of 3–4 ommatidia, the profemur has a very small tooth and there are distinct, long, sinuate, pale yellow hairs on the pronotum, elytra, legs, and ventrally on the mesoventrite only. As the holotype is a female and the paratype is also a female, a confirmed placement in a species group is not possible without examination of a conspecific male.
