Type Locality. Venezuela, Barinas State, ca. 13 km SE Ciudad Bolivia, 8°19.394ʹ N, 70°28.238ʹ W, 173 m. GoogleMaps
Diagnosis. Only male genitalic differences characterize members of this species. The median lobe in lateral aspect is straight to the apex, which is elongate and sharply pointed ( Fig. 18 View Figs ). In ventral aspect, the median lobe is very broad basally, then abruptly constricted and apically narrowed to the sharply bifid apex ( Fig. 19 View Figs ). The lateral lobe is also uniquely shaped with the dorsal ramus elongate, expanded medially and sharply pointed, and the ventral ramus is transversely broad and apically broadly rounded ( Figs. 20, 21 View Figs ). Specimens are pale yellow with the head and pronotum evenly yellow and the elytron evenly light brown. The broad male median lobe that is apically strongly narrowed to a narrowly bispinous apex is somewhat similar to Demopachria nitidoides Young and D. margarita , but D. kemptonae has the median lobe straight in lateral aspect ( Fig. 18 View Figs ), the ventral ramus of the lateral lobe broadly lobate, and the dorsal ramus pointed and curved mediad in ventral aspect ( Figs. 20, 21 View Figs ).
Description. Measurements: TL = 1.3–1.4 mm, GW = 1.0 mm, HW = 0.5 mm, EW = 0.2–0.3 mm, TL/GW = 1.4, HW/EW = 2.0–2.1. Coloration: Head and pronotum evenly yellow. Elytron evenly light brown. Head appendages, legs, and ventral surfaces uniformly orange. Male genitalia: Male median lobe in lateral aspect broad basally, apical portion slender, straight, evenly tapered to sharp point ( Fig. 18 View Figs ). Median lobe in ventral aspect very broad basally, abruptly narrowed medially, thereafter evenly tapered to sharply bifid apex ( Fig. 19 View Figs ). Lateral lobe in lateral aspect broad basally, apically deeply bifid, ventral lobe short, apically rounded, dorsal lobe curved and apically sharply pointed ( Figs 20 View Figs ); in ventral aspect moderately broad, apex of ventral ramus broad, apically broadly rounded, apex of dorsal ramus slightly curved mediad, narrowly rounded ( Fig. 21 View Figs ).
Variation. Specimens vary in the intensity of coloration of the dorsal surfaces, possibly because some are more teneral than others.
Etymology. This species is named kemptonae in honor of Dr. Christine Kempton, MD.
Distribution. This species is known from a few localities in Venezuela ( Fig. 69 View Figs ).
Habitat. According to label data, specimens were collected from a “large lagoon” and a “marsh.”
