Polydesmus (Stenonia) python Peters, 1864: 543 (original description); Moritz & Fischer 1978: 127 ( type information).

Platyrrhacus bivirgatus Carl, 1902: 652 , Pl. 11 fig. 65 (original description. Synonymized by Hoffman 1999: 379); Brölemann 1905: 342 (descriptive notes, taxonomic comments); Pocock 1909: 142 (description; new localities; suggest probable synonymy with P. python ).

Nyssodesmus nigricaudus Chamberlin, 1922: 37 , pl. 15, figs 4–8 (original description. Synonymized by Hoffman 1999: 379).

Nyssodesmus bivirgatus: Chamberlin 1922: 40 (combination).

Types: P. python , ♂ holotype from Costa Rica, without further locality; Hoffman leg. Deposited at the ZMB, cat. no. 8, in the dry collection ( Moritz & Fischer 1978; J. A. Dunlop, pers. comm.).

P. bivirgatus , 1 ♂ and 5 ♀♀ syntypes from Costa Rica: San José; P. Biolley leg. Four syntypes and a small vial with a gonopod deposited at the MHNG, cat. no. MHNG-ARTO-14383, the location of the rest syntypes is unknown (J. Hollier, pers. comm.).

N. nigricaudus , ♂ holotype from Costa Rica without further locality. Deposited at the NMNH, cat. no. 843 ( Chamberlin 1922; D. DeRoche, pers. comm.).
