Remarks. The re-examination of the holotype (Fig. 6/12abc) revealed that the densely grained surface is a remnant of the original shell. Like other myodocopids, Triadogigantocypris balatonica had a carapace made of amorphous calcium carbonate; this is in contrast to podocopid carapaces, which consist of crystallized calcium carbonate. According to Sohn & Kornicker (1969), nodules are formed mainly post-mortem in the carapace of myodocopid ostracods and this leads to disintegration of the shell. These nodules can be observed on the carapace—mentioned by Monostori (1991) in the original description—as ornamentation on the surface of the mould.
