Genus Chlaenius Bonelli, 1810 View in CoL
The genus has not been revised since the Chaudoir (1876) work and is very speciose with almost 1259 described species and subspecies worldwide ( Lorenz 2021). Tentatively, Basilewsky (1950b, 1950c) divided the genus Chlaenius into several genera, most of them recognized later at the subgenus level ( Lorenz 2005). Provisionally, a total of 65 subgenera are recognized within Chlaenius ( Lorenz 2021) . The identification keys for the Afrotropical species, or for some African country species, were provided for some of the subgenera (e.g., Basilewsky 1950c, 1952, 1955a, 1955b; Kirschenhofer 2008, 2009, 2010, 2018, 2019). Seventeen of those subgenera and 53 species were reported in Guinea ‒ Bissau (see Table 2 View TABLE 2 ).
