Remarks. Type specimens of the species and many of the synonyms are deposited in the Natural History Museum, London.

Distribution. The species has been reported across a wide geographic range. Records for the species have been published for Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Suriname, St. Lucia, the Antilles, Trinidad, Uruguay, and Venezuela ( Metcalf 1963a; Duffels & van der Laan 1985; Sanborn 2011a, b, 2013, 2014, 2019 a, 2020e, 2023b; Sanborn & Heath 2014; Nunes et al. 2023). It is possible that the records from Uruguay represent one or both of the similar species ( Dorisiana noriegai Sanborn & Heath 2014 , Dorisiana metcalfi Sanborn & Heath 2014 ) found in Argentina and Brazil ( Sanborn & Heath 2014; Nunes et al. 2023).
