Type species: Gymnodamaeus veriornatus Higgins, 1961
Diagnosis: Gymnodamaeidae with ventral plate having narrow anogenital bridge and lateral pits; genital plates with interlocking teeth on the median margin and bearing 7 pairs of setae, seta g 2 inserted posteriad g 1; 2 pairs of adanal setae. Legs without retrotecta on distal segments, femur IV with 2–3 setae. Prodorsum without raised cerotegumental ridges, with spherical pustules; sensillus (bo) with long stalk and narrow, barbed head; bothridial rim simple, bothridial ridge well developed (Fig. 18 arrow) and ending in strong apophysis directed towards the midline bearing spine-like interlamellar seta (in), median region shelf-like, dropping off sharply at anterior edge; exobothridial seta (ex) inserted posteriad in; rostral seta (ro) inserted well posteriad lamellar seta; lamellar seta (le) curves ventrad inserted at steep base of well developed transverse prelamellar ridge; pedotectum II rounded distally. Notogaster flattened, with raised rim, crenulate outer margin; without posterior median nipple-like process between setae h 1 or anterior tubercular patch; 5 pairs of setae (h 1-2, p 1-3), h 1 inserted dorsally, h 2 mediad ip; cerotegument with spherical pustules, with (Fig. 17) or without a pattern of raised ridges forming cells, parallel marginal folds present; sejugal tubercle well developed.
