Current status. Valid subspecies: Helotrephes semiglobosus formosanus Esaki & Miyamoto, 1943 (see POLHEMUS 1995c, ZETTEL & POLHEMUS 1998, PAPÁČEK & ZETTEL 2004, AUKEMA et al. 2013).
