HOLOTYPE: ZMB 33.1103 [also accidentally registered as ZMB 49.296 ]. Adult female. Loc.: Hunsteinspitze [Mt. Hunstein, middle reaches of the Sepik, Papua New Guinea, 4°31' S, 142°40' E]. Date: 7 March 1913. Coll.: Bürgers. Iris: grey. Bill: Black. Feet: greyish blue. [Skin; data on field label].

COMMENTS: This single hybrid specimen was registered twice—once by Stresemann in 1933 while writing the original description and again by Meise when drafting the type MS. Only the older registration should be used. See Ailuroedus melanotis guttaticollis for details on the collecting trip.
