Report associated with sponges: This species was extracted from "sponge weed" (a symbiosis between the red alga, Ceratodictyon spongiosum Zanardini, 1878 and the sponge, Haliclona cymaeformis ), collected at a depth of 1 m from Great Keppel Island (Great Barrier Reef lagoon, north-eastern Australia) ( Otto 2000b).

Remarks: A new subfamily, Spongihalacarinae was also established to incorporate this single genus ( Otto 2000b).
