Diagnosis. See the diagnosis of the genus (monospecific genus).

Type material. Holotype: female, 30 mm long, subadult ( Takakuwa, 1934a, c).

Type locality. ‘ Moiwayama (bei Sapporo)’, Hokkaido ( Takakuwa, 1934a) .

Depository of type material. The holotype is probably lost (see Discussion).

Material examined. None.

Description. Body length of adults reaching at least 3 cm. Body colour yellowishbrown, without dark patches. Head about 1.2 times as long as wide; frontal line present. Clypeus with a single large plagula, with some patterned setae on the middleanterior part. Labrum: anterior ala triangular, medial margin reduced to a vertex; posterior margin of each sidepiece straight, without medial processes, not crenulate and without hairlike projections. Buccae without setae, spiculum absent. Mandible: about 8 lamellae; first lamella with about 4 teeth; average intermediate lamella with about 10 teeth; ventral surface of mandible with scales (giving a hairy appearance). First maxillae: anterior corners not projecting; medial projections with a large, clavate distal lobe. Second maxillae: article I of the telopodite about 2 times as long as wide; article III about 3 times as long as wide, with a few setae only; apical claw present, long and thin. Forcipular segment: width to length ratio of exposed part of coxosternum about 1.2; forcipular article I about 1.1 times as long as wide, with a well developed distal tooth; articles II and III each with a small tubercle; tarsungulum with one basal tooth. A total of 41 legbearing segments. Last legbearing segment: sternum subtriangular, posterior margin rounded, about 1.4 times as long as wide; telopodite without apical spine.

Distribution in the considered area.

Hokkaido: ‘Moiwayama’ [1] (type locality), ‘Poroshirisansô at the foot of Mt. Poroshiridake’ [3] .

General distribution. This species is known only from Hokkaido. A record from the Brazilian coastline, associated with plants imported from Japan, should be interpreted as an occasional introduction.

Remarks. P. moiwaensis , originally described as a member of the genus Tygarrup , is the only known species of the genus Partygarrupius Verhoeff, 1939 . The number of legbearing segments was erroneously given as 43 by different authors, as discussed by Foddai et al. (2003).

The immature stage of the holotype was inferred from the drawing by Takakuwa (1934c).
