Description. Brownish green with lighter and darker spots in fore part of body. Forewings smoky hyaline in apical parts, veins of hindwings and dorsal side of abdomen dark, visible through folded forewings ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 1–12 ).
Dorsal apodemes almost undeveloped, look like narrow transverse sclerotized band at base of abdomen. Ventral apodemes about twice as long as wide at base, parallel-sided, touching with inner margins or even converging and somewhat overlapping ( Fig. 37 View FIGURES 13–37 ). Aedeagus with well-developed lateral processes ( Figs 48–49 View FIGURES 38–63 ); occasionally, one or both processes serrated or bear small appendages (visible in lateral view on Fig. 48 View FIGURES 38–63 ). Style shape typical of genus. Pygofer appendages narrow ( Fig. 57 View FIGURES 38–63 ). Anal collar appendages narrow, falcate ( Fig. 63 View FIGURES 38–63 ).
Hosts. Mainly Salix spp. We once found a population on cultivated Populus nigra ; Dworakowska (1976) also reports K. virgator from Alnus glutinosa .
Distribution. Europe, European Russia, eastern Kazakhstan, Mongolia (Dworakowska, 1976; Mitjaev, 2002). In Kyrgyzstan, K. virgator was found only in four localities in the northern part ( Chelpakova, 1994), which probably indicates that it is an introduced species in this country.
Remarks. We did not collect this species in Kyrgyzstan. The above description is based on specimens from European Russia.
