3. Limonium virgatum View in CoL group.―The plants of this group are typically green, with glabrous, scabrous or verrucate surfaces. The sterile branches are characterized by having numerous rigid, robust (not fragile) nodes. The inner bracts are more or less curved. The Greek species belonging to this group are L. virgatum and L. aegaeum , both widespread in the Aegean area. They are apomictic. The triploid (2n = 27) L. virgatum is frequent throughout the Mediterranean, while L. aegaeum , restricted to the Aegean area, is aneuploid (2n = 34). Neither species favours a particular habitat. They can be found in saline or non-saline environments, and even in synanthropic habitats.
