Type and only included species: Zygophyseter varolai sp. nov.
Etymology: The generic name is a combination of the Latin adjective zygomaticus, emphasizing the extreme elongation of the zygomatic process of the squamosal, and Physeter , the type genus of the family Physeteridae . Gender masculine.
