Abbreviated Description. Indumentum of sparse simple hairs, leaflets mostly 3–5, opposite, 4.7–12 cm long, 1.4–4 cm broad, when 3-foliolate, the basal pair often greatly reduced, elliptic, oblanceolate or lanceolate, glabrous except for tufts of hair in the axils of secondary veins below, and these sometimes scattered across the lamina, finely glandular-punctate, inflorescence 3–7 cm long, a slender thyrse, petals 5(–6), 2.5–4.5 m long, free, imbricate, filaments usually completely fused, anthers 9–10, glabrous, nectary a small annulus, ovary 3-locular, glabrous, locules with 2 collateral ovules, style-head capitate to conical. Fruit 1.4–2.3 cm long, 3-valved, ellipsoid, apex truncate to emarginate, base acute to rounded, often with a short stipe, subglabrous, seeds 1–3, arillode enveloping upper half of the seed and sometimes more.
Distribution & Ecology. Coastal Brazil from Bahia southwards to Rio Grande do Sul, in lowland rain forest.
