Abbreviated Description. Indumentum of simple, crisped, tomentose or villose hairs, leaflets dimorphic, 7–11 with 2 pairs of reduced basal leaflets, usually opposite or subopposite, 14 × 4–25 × 7.5 cm, oblong or oblong-lanceolate, chartaceous to thinly coriaceous, secondary veins (17–)20–29 pairs, at least 1 pair of reduced basal leaflets with expanded blade, inflorescence 30–60 cm long, a slender panicle, petals 4–5, ca. 6 mm long, fused to 1/3–2/3 their length, valvate, appressed puberulous, filaments completely fused in a cylindrical staminal tube, anthers 7–10, nectary obscure or absent, ovary pubescent, 3-locular, locules with 2 collateral ovules, fruit unknown.
Distribution & Ecology. Known only from central Amazonian Brazil where it is a denizen of non-flooded lowland forest.
Additional Collections Examined. BRAZIL. Amazonas: Manaus-Itacoatiara km 26, Ducke Forest Reserve (SW0259), Assunção & Pereira 262 (K); Gomes et al. 9 (K); Souza et al. 548 (K).
Relationships. Morphologically closest to T. schomburgkii , but this relationship is not confirmed by the ITS analysis which has them widely separated.
