Abbreviated Description. Indumentum of minute puberulous basifixed simple hairs. Leaflets dimorphic, 9–10, with 1 pair of greatly reduced basal leaflets near base of petiole, opposite to alternate, 13 × 3.5–15 × 6.5 cm, oblanceolate, elliptic, oblong, or lanceolate coriaceous, margin revolute, inflorescence 20–26 cm long, a laxly-branched panicle, petals 5, 5–6 mm long, fused for 1/2–2/3 their length, valvate, filaments completely fused in a staminal tube, margin with subulate appendages alternating with the anthers, anthers 9–10, nectary absent, ovary densely strigose, 3-locular, locules with 2 collateral ovules, capsule ca. 2 cm long, 3-valved, narrowly ovoid, appressed puberulous, seed with aril developed at apex and along adaxial face only.

Field Characters. Tree to 15m high and 20 cm diam, with cylindric bole and greyish-brown bark which scales in large irregular thin pieces, slash 3–4 mm thick, reddish; the fragrant flowers are pale cream-coloured, with yellow anthers. Flowering in November and December, fruit maturing from December to February.

Distribution & Ecology. Known only from the Tarapoto region, San Martín, Peru where it is a component of semideciduous seasonally dry forest, occuring with Manilkara bidentata and Schinopsis peruviana , at 250–350 m elevation.
