Moschoxylum trachyanthum Griseb., Mem. Amer. Acad. Arts , New Ser. 8: 169 (1861). Type:— CUBA. Oriente, near Monte Verde, fl., Wright 1134 (holotype GOET; isotypes, BM, BR, G-DC, GH, K, MO, NY, P, PH, S, US).

Abbreviated Description. Indumentum puberulous to pubescent with simple hairs, leaves mostly pinnate, leaflets (3–)5–9, opposite to alternate, 2.8 × 1.7–7.5 × 3.5 cm, oblanceolate, obovate or broadly elliptic, coriaceous, venation brochidodromous, inflorescence 2.5–12 cm long, a slender raceme or thyrse, petals (3–)4, (2–) 3–3.5 mm long, fused 1/3–1/2 their length, valvate, filaments completely fused in a staminal tube, margin with 4–5 attenuate lobes, anthers 4–5, nectary absent, ovary strigose, 2-locular, locules with 2 collateral ovules, capsule ca. 1.7 cm long, 2-valved, ellipsoid, valves reflexing, smooth papillose, seed 1–2 in each valve, completely surrounded by a thin fleshy arillode.

Distribution & Ecology. Cuba (Santa Clara and Oriente), in semideciduous dry forest over limestone. Due to habitat degradation this species is now classified as endangered ( IUCN, 2015). Conservation Status. Endangered B1 + 2c ver. 2.3.
