Ficus squamulosa Pittier (1941: 134) View in CoL
Lectotype (designated here):— VENEZUELA. Anzóategui, Los Caños, Río Carí , 9 December 1940, Pittier 14465 (lectotype: US 1801068!, isoneotype: F!, S!, VEN!).
Nomenclatural notes:— In the protologue is not stated the original material of Ficus squamulosa , it is only reported that the species occurs in Rio Carí. Berg & Simonis (2000) were the first ones to suggest the specimen Pittier 14465 as a lectotype ; however, they do not state the herbarium where the type was. Berg & Villavicencio (2004) cited the specimen Pittier 14465 ( VEN) as a holotype ; however, this cannot be considered a lectotypification because it was published after 2001 and the required statement “designated here” or a similar phrase were not used ( Turland et al. 2018, Art. 7.11). Here , we designate the specimen Pittier 14465 ( US 1801068) as the lectotype because it is the most complete specimen as it has branches, leaves, stipules, peduncles, and syconia. The specimen deposited in VEN unfortunately has neither syconia nor stipules and these structures are informative for species identification .
Taxonomical notes:— Ficus squamulosa Pittier was accepted by Berg & DeWolf (1975) but later synonimized by
Berg & Simonis (2000) under Ficus crocata , synonymy accepted by Ibarra-Manríquez et al. (2012).
