Japanagallia hamata Zhang and Li View in CoL
Figs. 3 View FIGURE 3 D, H, L; 14A–F.
Japanagallia hamata Zhang and Li, 1999: 107 View in CoL
Dark chocolate brown. Upper part of face and crown fulvous, median line, round spot on either side of median line black; antennae, lateral margin of gena below eyes, fore coxae fulvous. Other legs pale with fuscous markings. Lateral margins of pronotum, basal streak on forewing, fulvous, apical half of forewing lighter in color.
Male genitalia: Pygofer caudally rounded, with mesal spine-like process, short but stout setae on caudal area. Connective longer than broad, caudally bilobed. Aedeagus with well developed dorsal apodeme, Preatrium well developed, plate-like with caudal conical projection, with pair of long slender processes, first directed laterally then curved anteriorly, stem straight, of uniform width to gonopore, with pair of lateral processes on either side of gonopore and with caudal extension of shaft beyond gonopore, one forked process at base of shaft on dorsal margin, each fork curved first anteriorly then dorsally.
Measurements. Male 4.0mm long, 1.3 mm wide across eyes.
Material examined. 33, Guangxi, Jinxiu, Dayaoshan, 13.vi.1982, Li Fasheng ( CAU).
Distribution. China (Guizhou, Guangxi).
Remarks. The illustrations given by Zhang and Li (1999) are misleading. They overlooked the preatrial processes which are delicate and unless carefully dissected are likely to be damaged. J. hamata externally resembles J. multispina sp. nov. (see below) closely but can be recognized by the structure of the aedeagus. Prof. Li (personal communication) confirmed that the male genitalia drawn here agree with the male genitalia of the holotype.
