Taxonomy. Original description: Acanthobrama lissneri Tortonese, 1952: 271 View in CoL [Lake Tiberias [Galilée], Israel; holotype: MIZT 3868].—Syrian synonyms: Acanthobrama terraesanctae oligolepis Karaman, 1972 View in CoL .— Revisions: Goren et al. (1973: 302); Freyhof & Özulug (2014: 8).—Illustration: Goren et al. (1973: 303, fig. 5).
Status in Syria. First record from Syria by Goren et al. (1973: 303); confirmed by Freyhof & Özulug (2014: 8).—Syria material: BMNH, FSJF.
Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Syria: Orontes River basin and Jordan basin.—Distribution in River Basin: 3-Desert, 4-Orontes, 5-Barada & Awaj, 6-Coastal, 7-Al-Yarmouk.—General distribution: Middle East: Israel.—Distribution in Ecoregion: 437-Orontes, 438- Jordan River, 440-Arabian Interior.—Habitat: This species is inhabiting in lakes and rivers. Freshwater.
Economic importance. Locally consumed, but of no commercial importance.
Conservation. Conservation Status in Syria: Unknown.—IUCN: NT ( IUCN 2023).—Threats: ABS, CLI, CON, EUT, HAB.—Moderate sensitivity to human activities.—Not considered as a keystone species.—Decline status: Decreasing.—Moderate priority for conservation action.
Remark. Freyhof & Özulug (2014:9) list this species in the comparative matrials from Syria (FSJF 2723, 8, 43-70 mm SL; Syria: River Yarmuk in Wadi Jallayn, 32°44’21” N 35°58’56” E).
