( Figs 94, 95 View FIGURES 94–101 , 194 View FIGURES 192–195 , 249 View FIGURES 246–251 )
Miltochrista karenkenis Matsumura, 1930 , Insecta Matsumurana, 5: 38, pl. 1, f. 17 (Type locality: [ Taiwan] “ Formosa, Karenko”).
Type material examined. Photograph of the holotype: ♀, handwritten label “ Formosa, Karenko, 19.VII.– 20.VIII. [190]4, T. Okuni, J. Sonan, K. Miy, M. Yosh [leg.]” / handwritten label “ M. karenkonis Mats. ” / red printed label “-type” (Coll. HUFA).
Other material examined. 8 ♂, 9 ♀, Taiwan, Prov. Taoynan, Ming Chur , Forest Recreation Area, 1160 m, 13– 14.07.1996, leg. G. Csorba & L. Németh, slides MWM 31439 (♂), MWM 31440 (♀) (Coll. MWM/ ZSM) .
Remark. The holotype has firstly been illustrated by Wu & Kishida (2018).
Diagnosis. Forewing length is 13.5–14 mm in males and 15–15.5 mm in females. Barsine karenkensis is similar externally to its continental sister species B. euryphaessa sp. n., but differs by its slightly larger size, thinner pattern elements, smaller antemedial spots, medial line being well separated from the antemedial line, and longer strokes in the submarginal area of hindwing. The male genitalia of B. karenkensis differ from those of B. euryphaessa sp. n. by their narrower medial costal process, longer distal costal process, broader, rectangular membranous lobe of valva, straight distal saccular process (that is hook-like curved dorsally in B. euryphaessa sp. n.), longer and narrower subbasal ventral diverticulum having a small cluster of small cornuti basally and granulation apically (in B. euryphaessa sp. n., that is globular and membranous), much smaller medial ventral diverticulum, and much narrower lateral band-like cluster of cornuti. The female genitalia of B. karenkensis can be distinguished from those of B. euryphaessa sp. n. by their more rounded and heavily sclerotized antrum without an anterior protrusion (that is slightly narrower and has a small anterior protrusion in B. euryphaessa sp. n.), and slightly broader appendix bursae.
Distribution. North Taiwan Isl. ( Matsumura, 1930; Kishida 1978; Fu & Tzuoo 2002; Wu & Kishida 2018).
