≡ Brunia staavioides Sond. View in CoL in Harvey & Sonder, Fl. Cap. 2: 316. 1862 ≡ Raspalia staavioides (Sond.) Pillansin View in CoL J. S. African Bot. 13: 154. 1947
– Lectotype (designated hereby Oliver): Drège s.n. ex herb. Sond. (S-G-8316).
Placement of this species in Staavia is based on morphological data as anther morphology, flower arrangement, and two united styles; it was not included in the DNA analysis. Pillans (1947) included the species in Raspalia differing from Staavia in having free instead of united styles; however, he himself mentioned that Raspalia staavioides has “styles united except for the diverging tips” ( Pillans, 1947: 154). The species shares the presence of stipules, amphistomatic leaves, and the petal bulge with all speciesin Staavia , and the general appearance with S. radiata .
