Type species. Attelabus vestitus Gyllenhal, 1839 View in CoL , designated by Voss (1925).

Himatolabus View in CoL belongs to the genus group Attelabina, which also includes Attelabus Linnaeus, Homeolabus Jekel View in CoL , Xestolabus Jekel View in CoL , Omolabus Jekel View in CoL , Temnocerus Thungberg View in CoL , and Phyletobius Voss. View in CoL
Generic diagnosis. Himatolabus View in CoL can be recognized by the conspicuous pubescence, the compact body, and for the most part, the reddish-brown integument ( H. axillaris View in CoL is black with distinct reddish orange maculae on the elytral base). The only other genus whose species possess abundant pubescence is Pilolabus Jekel View in CoL , but it is found only in Central America.
