Pericera subparallela Stimpson, 1860: 186 [type-locality: St. Thomas; type in USNM].

Pericera vilpini Desbonne View in CoL in Desbonne & Schramm, 1867: 12, pl. 5, figs. 14, 15.

Distribution. Western Atlantic: Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Gulf of Mexico, St. Thomas, Isla de Blanquilla, Venezuela, and Brazil ( Rathbun 1925; García & Capote 2015; Carmona-Suárez & Poupin 2016; Poupin 2018).

Material examined. Barbados, Shermans, St. Peter , subtidal, 13°16’07.25”N, 59°38’43.73”W, 1♀ CW: 17.6 mm ( BLSZ 164 ) GoogleMaps . CW: 25.4 mm ( BLSZ 047 ) GoogleMaps . Idem , 1 Ô, CW: 22.6 mm ( BLSZ 046 ) . Idem , 2 Ô, 1 ♀ CW: 10.3, 10.6, 10.6 mm ( MZUSP 40888 View Materials , 40916 View Materials ) .

Remarks. Specimens of Macrocoeloma subparallelum were collected by hand in nearshore rubble habitat at low tide and caught in crab traps placed on sandy bottoms (~ 4 m deep) on the west coast of Barbados. One ovigerous female was collected in July 2019. Two colour varieties of Macrocoeloma subparallelum were collected by this study, the purple ( Fig. 8B View FIGURE 8 ) and green variety ( Fig. 8C View FIGURE 8 ). Rathbun (1921: 87) reported specimens of Macrocoeloma subparallelum (three females (one immature; one ovigerous), USNM 72864, 72865, 72882) for Barbados that were collected by the Barbados-Antigua Expedition in 1918. Macrocoeloma subparallelum can be identified by the shape of the rostral horns, which are subparallel and not fused at the base, the presence of a row of five spines in the posterior branchial region (not including lateral spines), and the presence of a spine on the dorsal surface of the carapace in the intestinal region (modified from Rathbun 1925).
