Dissodactylus crinitichelis Moreira, 1901 View in CoL View at ENA

( Figs. 21A, B View FIGURE 21 )

Dissodactylus crinitichelis Moreira 1901: 37 View in CoL [type-locality: Brazil; type in MNRJ]; Coelho & Ramos 1972: 196; Williams 1984: 438, fig. 530; Abele & Kim 1986: 64; Griffith 1987: 412; Melo 1996: 436, unnumbered fig.; Bertini et al. 2004: 2202; Almeida et al. 2010: 358; Boos et al. 2012: 1032; Poupin 2018: 232. Dissodactylus encopei Rathbun, 1901: 22 View in CoL , fig. 5 a–e; 1918: 119, figs. 67a–e, pl. 27, figs. 1–4; Williams et al. 1968: 56, fig. 12.

Distribution. Western Atlantic: Belize, British Honduras, Barbados, and Brazil ( Rathbun 1901; Poupin 2018).

Material examined. Barbados, Old Chefette , St. James, subtidal, 13°10’45.13”N- 59°038’25.62”W, 1 ♀ CW: 3.5 mm ( BLSZ 042 ) GoogleMaps .

Remarks. The single specimen of Dissodactylus crinitichelis was caught by hand sub-tidally (~ 4 m deep) on the sand dollar Leodia sexiesperforata (Leske, 1778) . Telford (1978: 651–658) reported the species Dissodactylus crinitichelis and Dissodactylus primitivus Bouvier, 1917 , for Barbados when investigating their distribution on their echinoid host. This report was followed by the genus revision of Griffith (1987: 397–422), who examined the specimens of Dissodactylus crinitichelis and Dissodactylus primitivus collected by Telford. Dissodactylus crinitichelis can be identified by a smooth flat carapace, the oral cavity is covered by the third maxilliped, and the abdominal segments of female specimens are separated (modified from Griffith 1987; Queiroz et al. 2011).
