Notes:—An isotype of Eugenia macarensis O. Berg has been designated here as a lectotype, once the holotype has been destroyed in Berlin, as well as E. hoffmannseggii var. grandifolia , E. hartii , E. alexandri , E. loretensis and Eugenia leptophlebia .

In describing Eugenia brachythrix, Urban (1909) refered two syntypes, both destroyed in Berlin. The only duplicate found is Harris 5306 in NY and has been designated as lectotype.

In describing Eugenia sericiflora, Bentham (1844: 98) cited two specimens: one was cited only as “Isle of Taboga, Bay of Panama ”, with no reference to collector. He also cited “gathered also by Cuming 1137 ”, which we assume as a syntype. The specimen from K is here designated as the lectotype, once it has Bentham’s handwriting identification and is where Bentham worked. The specimen Cuming 1137 has not been found at K.

Distribution:— Eugenia biflora is broadly distributed in Neotropical region; it is the species with widest distribution among all the species of the section, widespread in Central America, from Chiapas to Panama and occurring from Antilles to Bolivia and Central Brazil. Figures of Eugenia biflora can be observed in Fournet (2002), Holst et al. (2003) and Rosário et al. (2005).
