Diagnosis. Larvae of this genus are distinguished from other Japanese Hydrophilini by the following combination of characters: (1) frontal lines V-shaped ( Fig. 62A View Fig ); (2) nasale with distinct teeth ( Figs. 60C View Fig , 62B View Fig ); (3) epistomal lobes rounded, projecting as far as or only slightly further than nasale ( Figs. 60C View Fig , 62B View Fig ); (4) mandibles symmetrical, with two large and one small inner teeth ( Figs. 61 View Fig B–C, 63C–D); (5) abdominal segments with rather short setiferous projections on each side ( Fig. 51B View Fig ).
