Genus Pterotopteryx Hannemann, 1959 View in CoL
Pterotopteryx Hannemann, 1959: 173 View in CoL . Type species: Pterotopteryx (Alucita) dodecadactyla Hübner View in CoL , [1813].
Pterotopteryx View in CoL includes P. dodecadactyla View in CoL , described by Hübner (1813) from Europe, and five additional species described by Gielis (2003), four of which are known from Russia and one from Tadshikistan. Recently Byun (2006) described P. koreana View in CoL from Korea.
According to Byun (2006), Pterotopteryx View in CoL can be characterized as follows: 3rd segment of labial palpus usually shorter than 2nd, rarely as long as 2nd (e.g., nigrifasciata View in CoL sp. nov.); and all Rveins present in forewing. In the male genitalia, the valva has a broad basal part extending to the middle area; the uncus is undivided apically; the gnathos is acute terminally; and the phallus is nearly straight, with spiniform cornuti in the vesica. In the female genitalia, the lobes of the vaginal plate are broad; the antrum is broad and cupshaped; the ductus bursae is short and broad, occasionally narrow (e.g., vietana View in CoL sp. nov.); and the corpus bursae has a small rounded signum, absent in some species (e.g., nigrifasciata View in CoL sp. nov. and vietana View in CoL sp. nov.). Zagulyaev (1997) stated that members of Pterotopteryx View in CoL can be distinguished only by the male genitalia (females of many species are unknown).
