Fissarcturus Brandt, 1990 View in CoL
Remarks: Fissarcturus is a genus of 20 species from the Southern Ocean ( Pereira et al. 2020, Boyko et al. 2024). They are recognised by the absence of long setae on the dactylus and the presence of a setiform dactylus on pereopods 2–4, the pleotelson with a pair of prominent posterolateral spines, a pair of submedian spines on the head, and the antennal flagellum of few articles ( Brandt 1990, Nickel & Brandt 2013, Pereira et al. 2020). Wägele (1991) provided a key to only three species; most have been described since.
Four species have already been recorded from the Weddell Sea: F. bathyweddellensis Brandt, 2007 (1121–2984 m); F. mawsoni ( Hale, 1946) (58 m), F. robustus ( Brandt, 1990) (124–225 m) and F. scelerosus ( Brandt, 1990) (295–300 m). Others have been described from 774 m depth in the nearby South Sandwich Islands: F. dorotheae Nickel & Brandt, 2013 and F. sandwichi Brandt, 2007 ( Pereira et al. 2020).
