Mandrillus schreberi Matschie, 1917 View in CoL
Sitzungsberichte der Gesellschaft Naturforschender Freunde zu Berlin. 5, pp. 340–346
Current valid name: Mandrillus sphinx (Linnaeus, 1758) ZMB 168 (= 24766), skull, skin
Comment: Matschie (1917) only introduced a new name for Schreber's Simia maimon , which had already been described but was, in Matschies opinion, named unfavorably or invalidly. In Berlin, several of these newly named Mandrillus schreberi nomen nov are available under various numbers (including ZMB 168). For the renaming, however, Matschie uses the illustration of Simia maimon (Plate VII) in Schreber's Work (1775). None of the Berlin specimens are types.
