Syntypes: ZMB 6689 , male, skull; ZMB 6690 , female, skull; Usukuma [Formerly a large area south of Lake Victoria during German colonization], Tanzania; collected by Langheld; ZMB 6495 skull; Ukami [Iringa region], Tanzania; collected by Lieder, undated .

Comment: Matschie mentioned an additional specimen that Stuhlmann shot in the Unguru (Ungun) mountains in September 1888. This specimen could not be found in the collection.
