Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (North Carolina to Florida), Gulf of Mexico, Antilles, Colombia, Venezuela, and Brazil (Atol das Rocas, Amapá, Sergipe, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Santa Catarina) ( Fausto-Filho 1966, 1967; Coelho & Ramos 1972; Powers 1977; Coelho & Ramos-Porto 1980, 1995; Ramos-Porto & Oliveira 1984; Williams 1984; Abele & Kim 1986; Coelho et al. 1986; Taissoun 1984; Barreto et al. 1993; Melo & Veloso 2005; Felder et al. 2009; Mendonça et al. 2019; Camargo et al. 2020; present study).

Remarks. This is the first record in São Paulo state. Sequences were previously used by us in molecular study ( Mantelatto et al. 2018a) and Camargo et al. (2020) carried out the sperm ultrastructure using samples from this specimen. Both studies did not specify the collecting point in Ubatuba, which is done herein.
