Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (Massachusetts to Florida), Gulf of Mexico, Antilles, Colombia, and Brazil ( Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul) ( Rathbun 1901; Hay & Shore 1918; Williams 1965, 1984; Fausto-Filho 1970; Coelho & Ramos 1972; Powers 1977; Campos & Manjarés 1991; Souza 1997; Bertini et al. 2004; Melo & Veloso 2005; Felder et al. 2009; Fransozo et al. 2012).
Remarks. Previous records on the coast of São Paulo include Ubatuba (Bertini et al. 2004; Fransozo et al. 2012).
